About Richards & Knauer Memorials

Richards and Knauer Memorials was founded by Marvin Knauer, along with his two half brothers, Ralph and Norris Richards in 1938.  Land located on Warwick Road was owned by Norris Richards at the time.  The company purchased some of the land and erected a building.  The Warwick Station was a half mile down the road and the three brothers would take their truck to the station to unload the two ton blocks of granite and marble which arrived by train from Barre, Vermont.

At first, the men used wooden rollers to move the blocks from the train, to the truck, to the factory.  Later they built a swing crane which they would attach at the railroad station to swing the block onto the truck.  Later, they had an overhead crane built  to the front of the building to make unloading easier.  As the business grew they extended the track to receive deliveries by tractor trailer.  Now we purchase smaller blocks of stone already cut and polished from Vermont and Georgia and also internationally including India, China and Africa.  The shaping and carving are done on premises.

Over the years we have had different owners but it has always been family.  Our workers now are currently the third and fourth generation of employees who are helping to keep the business to the same standards of quality.

A memorial is a family tribute, sculptured in stone, as a permanent reminder of love and family bonds.
Our Heritage

The family business has survived with many changes throughout the years with manufacturing and the death of family workers and owners.  We truly are a small business that is devoted to serving people who are in need of a memorial at the saddest time of their lives.

We maintain our standard of manufacturing a memorial of great quality with no short cuts to the designs or lettering.  The granite and workmanship is the same as when the business was formed in 1938.  We offer years of expertise and craftsmanship to help you design a memorial to pay tribute to your loved one.  We stand behind our work.

Our Facilities

Blocks of stone already cut and polished are purchased from the manufactures in Vermont.  The shaping  and carving are done on the premises.  The finer detailed of scenes can be done with etchings.

Along with monuments, we also offer cremation urns, bronze markers,  ceramic pictures, corner posts, pet markers, benches, date stones (the year a building was built, etc.) and engraving final death dates in the cemetery.
